Living in Ottawa
Despite the Ottawa area having a population around one-million people, the feel of the city is quite a bit smaller. You won't find super tall buildings or crowded side walks in Ottawa. What you will find, however, is a great quality of life that doesn't come at the expense of major league sports (your Senators!) and events.
Ottawa is considered a very family-oriented city, with well-paying employers such as the Federal Government and tech companies. Despite that, real estate prices aren't as high as in larger cities in Canada. Crime, as you may have guessed, is fairly low as well.
Weather wise, expect colder winters than many large Canadian cities. That said, summers can be humid. Festivals are plentiful year round, likely due to Ottawa being the Nations Capital. The Rideau Canal in the winter is a notable highlight, allowing for an excellent skating experience.
So, if that sounds like a city you would like to live in, getting a foothold in the city is easily done by living with a roommate - making for a cheaper living experience. Our roommate listings can help with just that. Enjoy!
